Rockpool Bar & Grill

Neil Perry – the man behind Rockpool Bar & Grill

Neil Perry wants to make Rockpool all about the steak and the variety of cuts you can get. He says he wants guests to share and taste the different steaks available on the menu and decide which one is your favourite and why. I love this restaurant, despite it having a few weeks wait to get a booking, it is definitely worth it for special occasions and birthdays! Now for those who aren’t the wildest about steak, that is completely okay, Rockpool has plenty of seafood, poultry and other special dishes that are made with such care. A plate of roasted vegetables at Rockpool tasted better than I could have imagined simply due to the way the vegetables were cooked and believe it or not…. The Mac n Cheese at Rockpool is by far the best I have had!
For those who associate high end restaurants with big price tags and tiny portions, Rockpool will change your opinion, every dish is fit for a proper Aussie meal!
On Rockpool has a 4.5/5 rating and the average cost for dinner for two people is just over $100.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

The well known Tipsy Cake dish available at Heston’s restaurant in Crown Casino, it has fried pineapple and an liquor soaked light pastry cake. One of my favourite dishes of all time!

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is another culinary experience at Crown Casino, it is known for its take on ancient dishes dating back hundreds of years turned into high end modern fusions. Heston Blumenthal is the owner of a three Michelin Star restaurant on the other side of the world and is well known for his creations, a snapshot of the menu available is shown below.

For those who have never been, the entrance to the restaurant is actually hidden, you walk down a hallway to what looks like a dead end and the entrance is the wall to the left (just walk up to it once you reach the end and it should open haha)! Had my savvy partner not been there I would have stood there in the corridor for an eternity wondering if I had gotten the wrong place the first time I went.

Aside from the stunning set up and service, not to mention the famous clock which you should ask one of the servers about when you get there, you get to actually watch the chefs make the dishes and you can see the famous deep fried pineapples spinning deliciously in the kitchen!

The Meat Fruit dish is featured in the picture below. has the average price sitting at about $300 for two people for dinner, I’d put that around $220 honestly unless you plan on having more than one glass of wine or drink with your dinner. It has a rating of 4.8/5 on Zomato and is definitely fit for special occasions with a loved one or a couple of close friends. If you have a big group they do have a function room with extra special service!

Now for the hungry eater, the portions are on the small side, so I would recommend being prepared to spend more if you are hungry or arrive at your dining experience with a lightly hungry stomach so that you give yourself time to enjoy each bite and flavour.

Opened in 1975, Flower Drum was created to deliver high quality Cantonese food to the Australian market. I first heard about this restaurant from a family member who often went there with business friends and partners, it has won the Restaurant of the Year award several years in a row in The Age newspaper and is known around the world. You can choose to dine A La Carte or have a Banquet menu service, not to mention you can pre order an entire pig to be served to you for $700!

This is actually the lowest rated restaurant on the article, surprisingly it is rated 3.9/5 on Zomato which appears to be partly due to customers feeling like the ‘Look & Feel’ of the restaurant is outdated or not up to scratch. A few reviews state that the restaurant seems to have become less of a fine culinary experience in the last decade, I have yet to experience Flower Drum myself so I look forward to proving those reviews wrong!

A beautiful lobster dish featured below from Flower Drum is one of the recommended dishes alongside the Peking Duck!

For those looking for Australian friendly high quality Chinese food, it seems that Flower Drum is for you. For those looking for hyper authentic Eastern Chinese food, you might be disappointed with the seasoning!

Vue De Monde

Vue De Monde was started by a young Australian man Shannon Bennett who trained in Europe and came back home to blow our minds with his creations!
Now at an approximate cost of $600 for two people, you would certainly hope for a spectacular experience! On Zomato Vue De Monde has a 4.9/5 rating with almost 3,000 reviews so that speaks for itself as well as the huge wait time for a booking. Located in the Rialto Towers on Collins st, you have a great view to go with your fine food.

Now I have not personally been to this restaurant either so I’ll be going off of the reviews from others and the menu available! The Chef’s tasting menu is shown below and it seems as though you would typically choose a several course menu during your booking as well as have paired drinks with your meals.
An item from the menu shown below, the presentation speaks for itself entirely.

This is the Wagyu tenderloin with carrot heart, looks like it’s cooked to perfection!

This restaurant should be on the list of someone who considers themselves to be an ultimate fine diner who likes to relinquish some control over their experience to the real experts.
